Era tempo che volevamo conoscere altri coraggiosi organizers che come noi mandano avanti i vari meetup della community di WordPress in Italia ma, anche cercando per lungo tempo, non riuscivamo mai a trovare un modo per riunire tutti in un unico posto e nello stesso momento.
Quest’anno però finalmente anche la mia amata Roma avrà il suo WordCamp e contestualmente anche il suo Contributor Day, ovvero un giorno dedicato a contribuire al progetto ufficiale e alla comunità.
Quale migliore occasione per noi quindi per tentare di organizzare un evento del genere, un meta-meetup dal vivo?
Siamo partiti dall’analisi di ciò che avviene quotidianamente nella nostra community e nel nostro Slack italiano. Abbiamo capito che da soli non ce la potremmo mai fare a richiamare così tante persone da posti così lontani, lo sforzo richiesto agli organizer va al di là dell’amore che proviamo per questa comunità.
Ci serviva l’intervento di qualcuno che conoscesse bene tutti e che avesse il polso dell’evoluzione di WordPress in Italia in questi ultimi anni.
È per questo motivo che ci siamo confrontati con Giulia Tosato, che sul canale #meta-meetup di Slack si occupa di mantenere i contatti con tutti gli organizzatori di meetup in Italia e che inserisce di volta in volta tramite Rosetta gli annunci dei vari eventi legati alla community WordPress direttamente nelle nostre bacheche!
Cosa ci aspettiamo da questo #meta-meetup dal vivo
Da questo incontro dovrà nascere per forza di cose un dialogo propositivo e uno scambio di idee su come portare avanti gli incontri e su come mantenere viva l’attenzione e l’affezione nei meetup.
Importantissimo sarà ribadire lo spirito con cui nasce un meetup WordPress e con il quale, si spera, viene portato avanti nel tempo.
Ci aspettiamo che organizer e avventori mettano al centro del tavolo i problemi più comuni che riscontrano nelle loro realtà locali. Ovviamente, di contro, chi avrà già affrontato tali problematiche sarà invitato ad esporre le possibili soluzioni/metodologie adottate.
Non vogliamo assolutamente creare un tavolo “alternativo” durante il contributor day quindi questa attività sarà completamente trasparente e tutti saranno invitati a partecipare.
Verrà ritagliato uno spazio temporale apposito al tavolo dedicato alla community che prevederà una introduzione ai principi e alle policies della community da parte di Francesca Marano. Il #meta-meetup sarà poi diretto e introdotto da Giulia che ci presenterà tutti gli organizer presenti e che favorirà lo scambio di idee lanciando alcuni temi trasversali per iniziare a discutere.

We’ve been wanting to meet some other brave organisers for a while now, people that like us manage and promote local Meetups of the Italian WordPress Community. But, despite the long-standing effort, we were never able to find a place ad a time to get everyone together.
This year, though, my adored city, Rome, will finally have her own WordCamp – and, contextually, her own Contributor Day, the day every WordCamps dedicates to building and contributing directly to the platform and the Community.
So what better opportunity, for us, to accomplish our goal: organising a live meta-meetup?
We started by analysing what daily happens in the Italian Community and on the Italian Slack team. So we realised that we alone could not bear the effort to call and organise so many people from so many different places: the energies required from the organisers goes beyond the love and the passion we feel for the Community.
We needed the support of someone who knew all the key characters, and that had its fingers on the pulse of the evolution of the Italian WordPress Community.
So we got Giulia Tosato involved! Giulia is responsible for the #meta-meetup channel on the Italian Slack, keeps contact with all Meetup organisers in Italy, and dutifully reports – through the Rosetta site – all news, updates and activities of the Italian WordPress Community directly in our dashboards!
What do we expect form this live #meta-meetup?
We expect that, from such a meeting, a constructive dialog and change of ideas is simply inevitable! Especially on topics such as properly and opportunely holding meetings, or maintaining attention, support and affection towards the Meetups. Furthering the notion of how a Meetup is born and what spirit animates – and sustains – it, will also be a vital topic.
We expect that organisers and participants will bring forth the most common issues they perceive locally, and, obviously, those who have confronted and overcome them, will be invited to share their solutions.
We have no intention of creating an “alternative” table during the Contributor Day, so this activity will be fully transparent and all parties invited to join.
A dedicated time slot will be created within the Community table: Francesca Marano will introduce the principles and the policies of the Community, and then Giulia will hold the #meta-meetup, introducing all the organisers attending, triggering the discussion, and facilitating the exchange of ideas.
