Perché dovresti rispondere alla Call for Volunteers?
- Se vuoi fare esperienza nel dietro le quinte di un evento e vedere da vicino tutta la macchina organizzativa del primo WordCamp Roma, unisciti a noi… ci sarà da divertirsi!
- Se vuoi conoscere più da vicino i professionisti che ruotano intorno al mondo di WordPress e magari entrare nel gruppo che organizzerà il prossimo WordCamp, fare il volontario è un’ottima occasione per stringere nuove e stimolanti relazioni.
- Partecipare a un WordCamp è un’esperienza divertente, costruttiva, formativa, partecipare come volontari dà ancora più soddisfazione. Certo, forse alla fine saremo tutti molto stanchi, ma ci brinderemo su con un sorriso compiaciuto.

Alcune testimonianze da chi ha già fatto questa esperienza… ed è pronto a rifarla
Michele, volontario al WordCamp Torino 2017, ci ha elencato i suoi buoni motivi per fare questa esperienza:
«Perché è un’esperienza bellissima, perché è un modo di contribuire al progetto Open Source WordPress, perché ti permetterà di conoscere tante gente e fare networking, per poi avviare il progetto che tieni rinchiuso nel cassetto, e sopratutto perché potrai sentirti parte di questa grande e fantastica community! I rapporti umani sono fantastici, puoi dialogare con gente che non hai mai visto nella tua vita come se la conoscessi da sempre. E poi: ogni scusa è buona per viaggiare, conoscere nuove città e nuove culture.»
Antonino, che ha contribuito come volontario ai WordCamp di Torino e Milano, ci ha descritto così la sua esperienza:
«La mia esperienza come volontario è stata particolarmente intensa. Mi sono sentito parte dell’organizzazione, ho conosciuto persone fantastiche, ho svolto ruoli di responsabilità, ma al tempo stesso super-supportato dall’organizzazione che non ti fa pesare il fatto di non aver alcuna esperienza nel ruolo che ti è stato prescelto e in automatico tutto va per il meglio, anche se non sai da che parte iniziare. Sempre voglioso di farlo e lo consiglierei a chiunque, soprattutto a chi ha più paura! Non c’è nulla di cui preoccuparsi, ma solo tanto da imparare e soprattutto tanto da divertirsi. 
»
Abbiamo chiesto a Dario, che ha partecipa come organizzatore al WordCamp Milano, tre cose che ha imparato grazie al WordCamp:
«Solo tre? La prima cosa che si impara e che quando sei insieme ad altri e hai un ruolo e un compito anche minimo che fa girare l’intero ingranaggio, devi avere l’umiltà di chiedere e di svolgere anche attività minime, rispettando opinioni, ruoli e tempi di ogni altra persona. La seconda è che al primo posto c’è sempre il risultato finale, ovvero fare riuscire bene un evento, e che per ottenere questo i dettagli contano moltissimo. La terza è che spesso le cose più divertenti, lo spirito più genuino di eventi come questo si respirano e accadono dietro le quinte.»

- Wanna get some “behind the scene” experience on building an event and witness from the inside the organisation of the first WordCamp in Rome? Join us: it will be hugely fun!
- If you want to get to know some of the professionals that gravitate in the WordPress ecosystem and maybe become one of the organisers of the next WordCamp, an experience as a volunteer it’s an excellent opportunity to meet new and possibly fruitful relationships.
- Being part of a WordCamp is fun, productive, and formative a, participating as a volunteer is much more satisfying. Yes, we’ll likely be exhausted at the end, but we’ll have a chance to toast on it with much satisfaction. 🍻

Michele, volunteer at WordCamp Torino 2017, recaps his good reasons to gain this experience:
«Because it’s a beautiful experience, because it’s a way to contribute to the Open Source WordPress project, because you’ll get to meet a lot of people and network. You may even get the inspiration you need to get that project out of the drawer. And, mostly, to feel part of this huge and amazing Community! The human interactions are exceptional: you can talk to people you’ve never met as if you’ve known each other forever. Plus: any excuse to travel is excellent as it gives you the opportunity to see new cities and meet new cultures.»
Antonino, who has volunteered at WordCamps in Torino and Milano, so describes it:
«My experience as a volunteer has been particularly intense. I felt part of the organisation, I met fabulous people and held roles with a degree of responsibility, but at the same time I felt super-supported by the organisers that made me feel comfortable about my lack of experience in the roles I was assigned, so that everything just flew very smoothly. I always try and become involved if I have the chance and I would highly recommend it, especially to those feeling shy or fearful! There is nothing to worry about, only a lot of things to learn and a lot of fun to enjoy. 🙂»
Finally, we asked Dario, who is one of the organisers of WordCamp Milano, three things he’s learned from this experience:
«Only three? The first thing you learn is that when you are with other people and you have a role and an assignment – albeit minimal – that keeps the cogs turning, you have to remain humble and take care of even the smallest details, respecting the opinions, the roles and the time of all other people. The second is that the top priority is the final outcome, and that is the success of the event, and that to do that the details are extremely important. The third is that often the most fun, the true spirit of these kinds of events happen behind the curtains and it’s from the inside that you can get the most of them.»
